This photographic book illustrates for the first time with splendid images the oasis of Alexander the Great, its extraordinary constructions made of salt and sand, the uses and customs of its population.
Siwa is the cultural capital of the oases of the Egyptian Sahara, the immense expanse of sand dunes called Great Sand Sea. Famous throughout the ancient world for the importance of its oracle to which the famous Greek poet Pindar dedicated an ode, it was visited by Alexander the Great who here was declared to be the son of God and therefore confirmed as the legitimate descendant of the Pharaohs. Vestiges of ancient monuments, four salt lakes, over two hundred springs, thousands of palm trees and olive trees make Siwa a unique place in the world.
